Coaching Youth Softball

PLEASE READ ALL OF THE PROVIDED INFORMATION. IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE AND UPLOAD ALL OF THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS DURING THE "BECOME A COACH" PROCESS YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO BE A VOLUNTEER COACH PER LITTLE LEAGUE RULES.

Coaching softball can be a very rewarding experience. Players learn and grow so much throughout the course of a season. Our goal as a Little League affiliate is provide a positive and fun environment for all players, new and returning. Little League International has partnered with The Positive Coaching Alliance to bring scientifically proven methods to coaches throughout the organization to develop a coaches ability to uplift and propel players throughout the season.

If you are interested in being considered for a coaching position please fill out the information below. Per Little League and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, all coaches must go through a background check and take the below required courses to be eligible for coaching at the youth level. If you are unable to do any or all of the required steps you will not be permitted to move forward in the coach selection process. Follow the steps below. Complete the courses and fill out the attached documents before signing up to be a volunteer coach. These documents are required to be uploaded at the time of registration. All files must be uploaded as .jpg images and cannot be uploaded as .pdf. You can take a picture of the document to upload, they do not have to original documents.

1) Complete and submit the certificate for the CDC Heads Up Concussion Training. *Must renew every year.

2) Complete "Diamond Leader" Training Program. *No renewal require. Upload your certificate and it will save in the system.
Little League "Diamond Leader"

  1. Select Resources: For Coaches
  2. Select "Training Courses"
  3. Select "Diamond Leader Training Program"
  4. Login To Training Portal or Create An Account
  5. If you've already completed the Diamond Leader training log into your account to save the certificate.

 

3) Complete Required Abuse Awareness Training for Adults Course. *No renewal required. Upload your certificate and it will save in the system.
Beginning in 2024, this training will now be a required part of the annual Little League Volunteer Application, along with the annual background check. The training must be completed before any individual can assume any duties for the current season, including District Administrators and Assistant District Administrators. *No renewal require. Upload your certificate and it will save in the system.
USA Baseball Free Online Abuse Awareness Training

  1. Create an Account or Sign in to USABDevelops.com
    • Go to USABDevelops.com
    • Click “Sign in/Register”
    • Enter all required information
    • Select "**Little League" drop-down menu and click “+Join”
    • If you have an existing account, click your name in the top right corner, select MY ACCOUNT, and then UPDATE MY PROFILE to link your account with your local Little League.
  2. Complete Abuse Awareness for Adults course*
    • Click EDUCATION
    • Select COURSES
    • Click “Abuse Awareness for Adults” → “+Enroll” → “Go to Course”
    • Complete the course
  3. *If you have completed the Abuse Awareness for Adults course in the past and need an updated certificate, please select the Restart Course button.
    • Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT
    • Select COURSES
    • Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click RESTART COURSE
  4. Download Certificate
    • Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT
    • Select COURSES
    • Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click DOWNLOAD CERTIFICATE

 

Download, fill out, and upload the second page of the required Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Acknowledgement Form
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires a CORI Form in addition to the Little League Background Check

The East Longmeadow Red Department requires all coaches receive and sign the Coach's Handbook and Code of Ethics. Only signature pages are required to be signed and uploaded (page 57 of the Coach's Handbook and page 1 of the Code of Ethics)

Little League International requires all leagues and districts in the United States to conduct an annual background check, including a nationwide criminal search, a search of the National Sex Offender Registry, review of the U.S. Center for SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database and Little League International Ineligible List. Little League preferred provider, J.D Palatine, has a Criminal File database that contains more than 600 million records, including criminal and sex offender registry records covering 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as the review of the U.S. Center for SafeSport Centralized Disciplinary Database and Little League International Ineligible List, meeting the current Little League Regulation 1(c) 8 & 9 requirement. All information provided is secure and used only for the Little League Background Check.
